Petition to Support the Digital Recognition of the Vietnamese Heritage and Freedom Flag

The City of San José is considering a resolution to support the digital recognition of the Heritage and Freedom Flag of the former Republic of Vietnam—known as the Yellow Flag with Three Red Stripes—as an emoji. This initiative reaffirms the City’s commitment to diversity and cultural representation, particularly for the Vietnamese-American community. The resolution seeks to honor the historical and emotional significance of the flag as a symbol of freedom, democracy, and resilience, and calls on the Unicode Consortium to reflect this identity in global digital communication.
