Power Santa Clara Valley Utility Project

LS Power Grid California is building a new underground electric connection between South San José and Downtown San José, called Power Santa Clara Valley. The project will make our electric supply more reliable and support local homes and businesses. In District 7, the work is happening on Monterey Road, and crews are currently between Capitol Expressway and West Alma Avenue. Work in our district will continue into 2027.

Work Areas Starting Monday, September 28

Crews are starting three new work areas on Monterey Road. Each area should take about two weeks, with additional work happening on and off through 2027.

  • Southside Drive to Lewis Road: Weekdays, about 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. One southbound lane and one northbound lane will be closed, including some extended closures.

  • Umbarger Road to Tully Road: Weekdays, about 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Two northbound lanes will be closed, including some extended closures. One northbound lane will remain open.

  • Barnard Avenue to Cottage Grove Avenue: Weekdays, about 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Two southbound lanes will be closed, including some extended closures. One southbound lane will remain open.

What to Expect

  • Crews are trenching in segments to install underground infrastructure.

  • Lane closures are expected Monday through Friday, generally from about 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Hours for each work area are listed above.

  • At least one lane will stay open in each direction, and turning lanes will stay open where possible.

  • Some segments of Monterey Road will also have night work. More details will be announced.

  • Work zones will be clearly marked, and the crews aim to keep noise, dust, and traffic impacts to a minimum.

  • Please plan for delays and use caution when traveling through the area.

  • Construction began: May 2026

  • Work continues in segments along Monterey Road in District 7 into 2027

How You’ll Be Notified

LS Power is notifying people along Monterey Road in several ways. Here is what to look for at your home or business:

  • Signs on Monterey Road: posted along the road with expected delays and a project contact number.

  • Overview postcard: explains the project and gives contact information. It was mailed before construction started and has already been sent to the project route.

  • Work notice postcard: lists specific start dates, cross streets, work hours, and lane closures. It is mailed a few days before construction begins in each segment.

  • Flyer at your door: for anyone who cannot be reached by mail, flyers are delivered at least 72 hours before work starts nearby.
